Bio-Inspired Robotics Using the Kamigami Platform

Spring of 2022, for my Bio-Inspired Robotics class, we were introduced to Dash Robotics' Kamigami platform. For those unfamiliar, Kamigami Robots are a line of toy robots that can be controlled via bluetooth through a mobile app. Our job was to understand the functioning and replace the robot with custom electronics. We were able to completely replace all the electronic components and achieve un-tethered wireless mobility.

Video 1 showcases the Kamigami robots out of the box. Video 2 showcases the robot with custom electronics and flex sensor.

In video 3 we demonstrate our bio-inspired modification which is the self-righting turtle neck extension. This simple yet intuitive autonomous technology would allow delivery robots to self-right in the absence of human presence. It took us right until the last day to be able to finish this as we only had a month to prepare. We also ditched the custom electronics in favor of the onboard pcb because the power consumption was proving to be far too much and we were running out of space for batteries. In spite of this, the servo was not getting enough power leading to us adding another battery and add some passive components to get the desired current.
